I first began quilting over 20 years ago. It’s been a way for me to express creatively, create space for myself, hold my grief and sometimes piece life together, quite literally. It’s a practice that has come and gone over the years. However, it's always found its way back in moments of intensity; the death of family and friends, my dad’s dementia diagnosis and care until his death, navigating divorce, along with the constraints of covid. These experiences paved the way for me to access a love and deep purpose in the practice.
I've straddled the healing and creative arts my whole life, studying Naturopathy, Shiatsu, Yin & Vinyasa Yoga teacher training, Holistic Counselling, Interior and Applied Design (both at RMIT) and Somatic Abolitionism with Resmaa Menekum and Education for Racial Equity. Quilting allows me to integrate my healing and creative studies beautifully.
There’s such simplicity in the process of quilt making. It isn’t dependant on the world being a certain way. Whatever is going on in life the process remains the same, it takes patience and attention. The process is a meditation in motion.
Thanks for stopping by.
